Every year this elementary school staff get together in late summer to do some team building with both the returning and new teachers. Their settings vary. This year the retreat was held in a park pavilion. Creating a graphic recording map is a central focus as the day progresses.
This particular session included some improv styled exercises, which is where the blue unicorn came from. I love the humor that comes out of their creativity. Also, given the park setting, one activity was building and launching little rockets – analogous to launching their classroom units with energy!
The completed graphic recording created during their one-day staff retreat represents their drive and strategy for the coming year. The map is posted in the school where staff can be reminded of their motivations and paths to success on a daily basis.
